Meaningful Use Network Overview Transcript

Hello. I'm Chris Allen, program manager for the Meaningful Use Initiative for TMF Health Quality Institute. Today, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 78% of office-based physician practices across the nation use the electronic health record systems to centralize housing of important patient information. In 2001, only 18% of practices did so.

According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act of 2009 authorized incentive payments to motivate positions to adopt the use of electronic health records or EHR systems. To receive EHR incentive payments, physicians must show that they are using certified EHRs in meaningful ways by meeting certain objectives.

As a CMS Quality Innovation Network Quality Improvement Organization or QIN-QIO, we are working directly with providers to insure they are meeting all requirements of meaningful use and are well positioned for future incentive programs. Through the TMF QIN-QIO Meaningful Use, Learning, and Action Network and in partnership with Regional Extension Centers, participating providers receive information and guidance on how to use EHRs to improve patient care and care coordination through the stages of meaningful use.

We service a collaborating organization, bringing together local and national stakeholders, federal agencies, and the Regional Extension Centers to support sustainable system changes and full optimization of EHR capabilities. Providers who join the network will also gain assistance with collecting and reporting data for trend analysis, access to free, live, educational web-based forms, and the ability to download free resources and tools to use to help improve processes within their practices.

Working side by side with providers, the TMF QIN-QIO is dedicated to improving health care and health care outcomes for providers and patients throughout the region.
